Say a little prayer ..

For Nick, my sis and I.

First, my sis is going to have some surgery done on her left eye. She has been dealing with Macular Degeneration for a few years now and also has cataracts. She has lost a lot of her vision due to the MD but the cataracts are making the problems worse. Her previous opthomalogist had given up on her condition and now she began seeing another dr who seems more prone to care and help her get help. She will be having surgery on Tues.

Second, Nick. He had been complaining of being very thirsty, hungry, and urinating too often. I have diabetes and know those are the symptoms of it. On Sunday, I asked him to check or let me check his sugar level. After a bit of pushing from me, he agreed. WOW! I was amazed at his results. Way over 500. I couldn't believe my eyes. Told him to drink a lot of water and check it again. He did and the result was over 600. The normal level is supposed to be between 70 and 120 or 130. That is what the nurses have told me and I attempt to keep it as close to it as I can. I didn't know what to do when his reading came in like that. The meter had Hi on it and I looked up the info on the meter's site. That's how I found out that it meant 600+. I have been asking and telling him to go to ER but he doesn't want to. Is concerned about his responsibility to Isis and I. He has to pick her up this whole week in the early morning to drive her to school from her other gramma's house to my home area. It is close to 15 miles away. My main concern is that he also complains of blurred vision. Another symptom of diabetes. I had finally convinced him to go yesterday but had a hard time getting someone who could drive him there. Didn't want him to drive because of his vision being blurred. Anyways, he just agreed now to go make an appointment with the clinic close by our home.

I am so upset and worried that he might have an accident while he is driving. Particularly to pick up and take Isis back. He has given me reason to be concerned after telling me how much his vision is affected. He is set on keeping his word and won't change his mind. Says he doesn't want to lose Isis or have any confrontation with her mom. Grrrr.

As for me, I had to go to ER close to a month ago. Had an intolerable pain in my left flank and they dx me with a kidney infection. Gave me macrodantin, a morphine shot and a scrip for vicodin. Have still been feeling the pain but it is getting more subdued. More like a dull pain that can stab me at times, particularly when I move or twist sideways. My internist ordered a scrip for Pyridine. He said it will help too. So for now, I guess I can say that I am getting a bit better. Just the worry about Nick and my sis's surgery is what is up front.

Would like for some to keep us in their thoughts and prayers. Will appreciate all of them.

Hi Raven,
That is a lot to have on your plate at one time, and I am hoping things go well for everyone concerned. Sounds like Nick needs to start metformin or something akin to it! Best of luck.

Great job in convincing Nick to let you test his sugar levels and persuading him to get to the clinic. Those symptoms plus that insane sugar readings are scary, scary, scary.

I am so sorry to hear of your sister's battle with MD. It's such an insidious disease.

Sure hop you feel some improvements soon -- a month is way too long to be suffering from a kidney infection.

Got all three of you covered in my prayers.

Glad your getting some thing for the pain, hope it works, and fast. As for Nick, help to him and fast, and I hope the eye problems get fixed. Good luck on all.

Why must bad things happen to good people? I hope Nick will get on this diabetes thing, and soon, Raver. He's at big risk right now, with blood sugar that high. I'm praying for you.
