Before handing a beloved pet to a shelter due to lack of funds try this site for pet food pantries. These folks in Colorado got on to this before the Humane Society of the United States so if you know of a new pantry opening let them know. The idea is that in rough times shelters and rescues find it better and cheaper for them, the animals and the families to supply food for a few months than to try and find new homes for older animals. Canada is included. http://www.pikespeakpetpantry.org/pb/wp_fdw325vh.html
