Around the world in a wheelchair

A disabled Romanian man is trying to go around the world in his wheelchair in just 13 months. Tudor Gaman left his hometown of Sibiu, central Romania, earlier this month and arrived in Austria at the beginning of the week.

The disabled man, who is using a specially constructed wheelchair and is being accompanied by a friend on a bicycle, said he hoped his journey "will motivate disabled people all over the world."

Mr Gaman will navigate 25,553 miles of land on his journey and experts from the University of Sibiu calculate it will take him 763 days.

But he hopes to complete the journey in an even quicker time after his wife gave birth to his second child just eight days after he set off. He said: "I'll have to be quick, as I don't want to be a granddad before my son gets to know me."

After making his way through Europe, Gaman will traverse America from north to south before flying to Australia. From there he will cross over Asia before making his way back to Romania. -Ananova
