    Business' with no wheelchair accessibilty

So what do you do when you go somewhere with only stairs? What about the ADA act?

ADA is only an Act with no means for enforcement but litigation. Find an attorney who is willing to take it on.

What are the details? If the building was built or designed before 1994ish they don't have to be ADA compliant.

Hey what building were you at? When I went to portland, me and my homie went to a strip club out there and I went to the bathroom to cath but there was no accessible bathroom stall. I just put a condom catheter bag on. I was going to talk to the manager about it but I kept getting distracted by the naked girls... Go figure

We were at a strip club too!! jk....

The building was probably built before 1994. It just has stairs, no other access. It isn't the first I have seen, I felt like saying something to the manager, but why?.. They aren't going to pour a ramp for one guy. Just sucks that Mike can't go in there. It is a deli.

Hmm, I'd do the diplomatic route... Inform them that you'd like to eat there, but... Stairs.

They might, if your/Mikes comfortable, help him in.... Or even a portable ramp.

But whatever you do, just be nice, mention your husbamd would love the place, but can't due to the stairs. Honey Viniger analogy...

Mike seems to be getting on better now.. Good to hear.

been to so many businesses w/o access. it's a struggle. the ada has no teeth w/o litigation. some buildings are exempted. ya gotta pick your battles and your energy. i have never sued. just written letters stating the law.

better yet, gotten to know the employees, managers and owners of local businesses. just talked to them.

The tricky word in the ADA is "reasonable" accomodations. Who is going to define reasonable? The owner might this reasonable it $500 worth of improvements, we might think just getting into the establishment reasonable.
Leave it up to the Gov't to only do the job halfway...lets come up with an act to help the disabled, but not have an enforcing agency.
Stupidity ain't illegal, but it sure is inconvenient.
