ELWOOD, Ind. -- Autopsy test results show an 8-year-old boy whom authorities initially thought died in a fire was dead before it began, prosecutors said.

Authorities in Madison County now are uncertain what caused the death of Mark Adrian Norris II, Indianapolis television station WTHR (Channel 13) reported Wednesday. An investigation is continuing.

The boy, who used a wheelchair, was pronounced dead Jan. 21 at the scene of the fire at his home in Elwood, about 45 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

His mother and two siblings escaped unharmed.
Officials ruled the fire was accidental, but have not disclosed the exact cause.

Firefighters said Jennifer Norris and her three children were asleep in the home when the fire broke out in a bedroom. She was able to flee the burning home with two of the children.
