he Miami Project to Cure Paralysis
    The Connection

    February 2008

Dr. Damien Pearse to attend Working 2 Walk Symposium
Leading researchers and advocates working to find a cure for paralysis
will descend on Washington, D.C. in April for the 3rd annual Working 2
Walk Science and Advocacy Symposium. Damien Pearse, Ph.D., will serve
as a speaker at this year's event presenting research he has done at The
Miami Project. The event brings together members of the scientific,
rehabilitative, and patient advocate communities for a lively exchange
    of information and ideas.

The Miami Project's Scientific Director, W. Dalton Dietrich, Ph.D.,
spoke at the 2007 Symposium, and commented afterwards, "This event was a
great opportunity to meet with and help inform those affected by spinal
cord injury who are now advocates for our efforts to find a cure. To
help gain the support of officials in Washington, D.C., researchers need
all the friends we can get. The Working 2 Walk event helps educate and
empower people so they can become effective advocates."

Organizers of the 2008 Symposium have scheduled a variety of breakout
sessions that will allow for small group discussions, increased
opportunities for interaction between leaders of the various
communities, and the ability to choose topics of particular interest.
Following the first two days of meetings and workshops, leaders will
visit Capitol Hill on Tuesday, April 15, to meet with legislators and
discuss the costs of care vs. cure and the need for increased research
    funding.

Working 2 Walk is scheduled for April 13-15, 2008, at the Kellogg
Conference Hotel on the campus of Gallaudet University. For updated
information on Working 2 Walk 2008 schedules, speakers, lodging, and all
other details, visit the event website at www.working2walk.org

I just saw that you're from Auburn!

I was born there, moved away, went to high school and university there! Anyway, even before I saw that you're from Auburn, I copied the information to my calendar, so I'll be thinking of the walk on the 13th!
    Thanks, Scott.
