Thirty eight applications came from nonprofit organizations and 12 came from for-profit companies, San Francisco-based CIRM said.
CIRM will give as many as 16 awards of up to $25 million for development of new lines of pluripotent human stem cells for research and clinical use to study, diagnose and treat serious injury and disease.
