Spinal-Cord Injury Treated with Patient’s Own Stem Cells

A hospital in India is using a 38-year-old woman's own stem cells to treat a spinal-cord injury. Based on successful stem-cell therapies performed at the hospital, bone-marrow stem cells were taken from the patient and injected into the spinal cord.
The woman injured her spine in a car accident and became paralyzed from the neck down. Doctors diagnosed her with a cervical-cord injury and a neck-bone fracture. She is recovering.
