There are many free on-line dictionaries that you could use to look up words, but most require you to look up the word by spelling it correctly. On my Mac I have a "widget" for one of these (Marrian-Wesbster) so it is always available.

Here are a few of the on-line sites:
    http://dictionary.reference.com/
    http://www.m-w.com/
    http://www.onelook.com/
    http://www.yourdictionary.com/

If you are really desperate, you can Google the word and if close, it will usually find the right spelling for you.

Spell check is usually easier as it lists most possible alternatives to the misspelled word. If in doubt, write your message in Word or AppleWorks first, spell check it and then copy and paste to whatever website you are using. Of course on this site, we already have spell check built into the response window.

Same here. I have my Google box on my header. As I type it finishes the possible words... works great. For the definition I click enter and usually dictionary.com is one of the 1st choices.

Why doesn't the spell check here work?

I use Clue.exe and my computer has a spell check in Norwegian but that doesn't help me much here.
