What does "MONO" mean on blood work?

My 8 yr old son had blood work done and everything came back fine except that on the CBC report it says:

    Lymph (normal)
    Mono .7
    EOS (normal)

I'm wondering what that "mono" means. It's just slightly raised and the dr had said that all the bloodwork was fine, but I'm just curious as to what the mono is. I called the drs office and spoke to the receptionist and she said not to worry about it, which I'm not really, but she didn't know what that meant either. I just want to know exactly what that is!!!

    Anyone have any idea?

    Thanks!

They are monocytes, one of the types of white blood cell that literally eat bacteria. This level is not a problem at all. Normal is actually .3 to .8.

Thank you very much Betheny! On the paperwork it says reference range is 0.3 to 0.5, so it looked slightly elevated, but, like I said the dr said everything was fine. I was just wonder exactly what that was. Thanks again for answering!
