Young athlete recovering from spinal cord injury
After more than two months of fighting to regain motion in his legs and arms, Blacksburg High School student Patrick Day is expected to come home from a Charlottesville hospital in three weeks.
The 16-year-old football player suffered a stroke that damaged his spinal cord Aug. 23, but is showing signs of improvement.
"He's moving the upper part of his body," said his grandmother, Linda Hawkins.
Patrick has been treated at the University of Virginia Health System's Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center.
