Thread: Prayers for my van

    Prayers for my van

So, I always bring someone w/ me to pump gas.
Well, now they have the diesel alongside the gasoline.

Guess what happened? Yeah, my father-in-law accidently pumped diesel into my out of gas brand new van while it was running!

I immediately shut it off and waited for my ranting husband to come and have it towed to his shop. They think they got all of it out.Hopefully none run through to cause damage.

I haven't went out yet today. Wish me luck, I'd hate to have to be w/o it!

Oh bummer! I hope everything is OK. I think Massachusetts has some sort of law that says the nozzles have to be different so that diesel can't be pumped into an ordinary car. I full tank of normal gas will probably dilute what little is left that it won't have any lasting effect. Good luck!

It won't cause any damage, it'll just run a little rough until the
    remaining diesel is out.

It's the other way around that can ruin an engine. Putting gasoline
into a diesel engine is very bad.

    It's called cross fuelling.

With modern high pressure injection diesels (20,000 psi) one drop of gas in a diesel = $2000 plus repair bill.

Gas into a diesel shouldn't be that dramatic.

Fingers crossed you should have got away with it.

Oh no! I hope it all works out!

somebody has removed the safety ring from your filler neck if its a new van...for years fed law has mandated the size of fuel pump nozzles and filler necks...an un-leaded fuel filler neck is smaller than a diesel or leaded fuel nozzel so it won't go into the neck unless someone has torn out the ring..
