TIJUANA, Mexico -- A San Diego-based company opens a new adult stem cell treatment center in Tijuana and NBC 7/39 has an exclusive look inside.

Medical correspondent Peggy Pico took a tour inside Hospital Angeles and met with a patient who said the controversial treatments are giving her new hope.

Arlene Howe of Julian said she was nearly paralyzed from the neck down after breaking her neck in a car accident.

"I had three passengers -- rolled down 150 feet. Thank God I was the only one injured," she said.

Howe received adult stem cell treatment in Russia, at the request of her brother-in-law, Dr. Maynard Howe. After her first stem cell treatment, she said she "was able push up and get into a walker independently."

And once her condition improved, Dr. Howe started Stemedica in San Diego. The company says the therapy is for patients with "no options, no hope," and claims adult stem cells can help people with many debilitating and deadly diseases.

Dr. Howe said, "Lives are being changed right in the U.S. with approved clinical trials for stem cells."

"The center does not deal with embryonic cell therapy". Enough said.
