Surgery priority-Doctor or Nurse please help

Pain from bad shoulder and scoliosis forced me to quit work.My shoulder specialist says I need a shoulder joint replaced and my spine surgeon says I need rods to correct scoliosis.I know both are serious surgeries but Idon't want to live in pain the rest of my life. The doctors say my heart, lungs and all are in great shape and with my luck I'll just keep living in pain so I figured I may aas well try the surgeries. I'm not trying to be funny. Which one should I have first? WR

It might be better to have the spine surgery first. If you have bad scoliosis, that might have an effect on your shoulder mechanics. It might significantly change your push mechanics if you're in a chair. Maybe things would improve enough that you wouldn't need the shoulder surgery right away. At least it's a hope.

In terms of the pain, if the pain is mechanical, muscle and bone pain from the weary joint and the crooked back, you can expect some relief. If any of it is neuropathic pain from your spinal cord injury, the chances of relief are not as good.

    Good luck wih your surgery.

Sorry you're still fighting with your spine, Whiterabbit. Good luck with straightening it out.

Thanks RAB, that's what I was thinking. The reason I asked is because there are no surgeons capable of doing the spine where I live but the local orth. surgeon wants to schedule me for a replacement now.

Sorry to hear you're still fighting with the scoliosis and cns pain Alan.I don't look forward to any surgery cuz I'm sure it's gonna be a long haul but my shoulder alignment has got so bad my right arm barely reaches the pushrim and my ribs are in constant pain from leaning against the arm rest.

Sounds like not much has changed for you Alan. I posted one of your articles on pain and the impressions of the general public on NM and it got several responses. Take care. WR
