The F's that your brain refuses to see

Count the number of "F"'s in the following quote.
    FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE
    SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTI
    FIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
    THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS…

Count them while reading backwards; that way your brain is not jumping ahead, skipping words to fill in the meaning. I got it right the first time using this method - a trick I use to proofread for spelling errors.

I'll admit, the first time I saw one of these I completely missed 4 of the F's.

    I'm an F-ing genius.

    I'm an F-ing idiot! 3!

I counted all 6 the first time through. I do not consider myself genius material, however. I think what will trip most up will be the disconsideration of the Fs contained in the word "of". This word has been heavily de-fanged in our language.

I can't believe I totally disregarded the preposition "of". Interesting puzzle.

The sentence still makes sense without the "ofs"
    FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE
    SULT YEARS SCIENTI
    FIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
    THE EXPERIENCE YEARS
I think thats why for many people our brains process and then disregard what isnt needed. Some languages dont even use prepositions.

That's right. I totally read the sentence without the ofs.

This puzzle reminds me of the other language puzzler that circulates the Internet. We can read anything correctly as long as the first and last letter in each word are in their proper position.
