Linksys wifi access point - could I rig this as a repeater

I'd like something that will boost my wifi signal so that I can work out back on my centrino based laptop. I just came across an old access poinjt that I used prior to installing a wireless router.
I wonder if I could hook this device by ethernet cable to the wireless router and by positioning it properly, direct my laptop to use it as a connection?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Seems like that might work, if you set the default gateway of the old AP to the address of the wireless router, and gave the old AP a different internal address range. You would be behind two levels of NAT but that shouldn't be a problem for most things.

There may be a more direct way to set it up but it would depend on the capabilities of the old AP. It's a good opportunity to tinker in any case.

Is it an AP or router?

It can and is done. Google search would be smarter than here.

    It's an AP.
    Thanks for advice.

You could - or you could just use a Cantenna !

Now if you ethernet one router off of another you won't be able to network the other machines that come off the first router. But otherwise it's ok.

    Just a little follow up.
The access point I have is Linksys WAP11 and it can be set to repeater mode.
My understanding is that all I need do is power this guy up once it is configured in repeater mode (no need for ethernet connection) and point it at the IP address of the wireless router in my basement which is hooked up to my cable modem.
I just hope that the Linksys device can talk to the Belkin router.

    We see.
