    Mucinex D and frequent urination

My son took Mucinex D yesterday and for some reason he spent all day cathing and having the urge to urinate. Could Mucinex D have anything to do with this?

Mucinex D is an expectorant and nasal decongestant with these active Ingredients: Guaifenesin 600 mg Expectorant, Pseudoephedrine HCI 60mg

We strongly encourage our clients to contact their SCI physician or at least speak with a pharmacist before purchasing any decongestants. Pseudoephedrine can cause bladder neck spasm, elevate blood pressure, and even trigger AD in those who are at risk. It may also interact adversely with other medications he is taking for his SCI. I would advise him to not take any more of this medication until he can speak to his physician.

Here is more information about pseudoephedrine:

Caffeine is a well-known bladder irritant and can cause bladder spasm and urgency in both those with and without SCI.
