    hand cycle

I am looking to get into a good beginner bike next year and wanted to do some research on what is out there. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I will be riding on some gravel but mostly shoulders, sidewalks and bike trails. Thanks!

You need to consider your transfer abilities. I wouldn't be able to use low riding ones, cuz I could never get back up! I can't handle the uphill transfer. I recently bought a used one like this, and am very happy with it. Mostly I ride around my neighborhood or on the rail trails.

I just lucked into mine, but there are places that rent them, and other places that have "clinic" like things so that you can try them out. Northeast Passage is a great resource, except that it is in New Hampshire. But check with any rehab hospital in your area, their recreational therapist may have some ideas. I also found places to rent on Cape Cod as well .... not that it will help you much! LOL Bike on has a great site to research from. (Found a rental place in CHicago .... a little closer. Bike Chicago http://www.bikechicago.com/rentals/)

Ok, I’m bored tonight, and stubborn.

This place http://www.courage.org/media/940.pdf Courage Duluth mentions trying out a handcycle on page 2. At least I made it to Minnesota!
