That might tip the scales for me, assuming the signal was strong where I live and the price was right (sadly, no DSL or Cable where I live.)
Zero, that is the complaint that the iPhone does not allow you to use it like a modem. I use a sprint vision phone (Sanyo) for that purpose when I am travelling in the United States. I can also do that with my blackberry but my sprint connection in unlimited.

I decided that I am going to wait on the iPhone until the second generation. I am pretty much addicted to my Blackberry. It does everything that I want a phone to do.

This description of what one user does with his iPhone is really quite convincing.
    http://theshapeofdays.com/2007/07/05...d-my-life.html

So, in less than two months after the launch of the iphone, many fixes and add-ons are now available for all the things that were lacking at the launch:
    • A replacement battery is now available for the iPhone (Source).
    • A hack that allows you to use the iPhone EDGE connection on your laptop (Source).
    • Over 300 apps are now available for the iphone (Source), ranging from all sorts of games to apps to get to your Bank of America account, cookbooks, Chinese-English dictionary designed especially for the iphone, and apps to order almost everything from flowers to pizzas.
    • Leaflets... http://getleaflets.com/
    • A buglist... 68 of them, found and tested. http://www.applehound.com/node/104
    • An iphone simulator on your desktop so that you can program an iphone on your desktop without having to use one http://ajax4iphone.com/2007/07/iphon...for-designers/

Well, apparently, they are still pretty much sold out.

I am sure that it won't take the Apple engineers long to come out with a fix that will eliminate the ability to unlock the phone by hackers.

yup, assuming it's an easy thing for Apple to "fix," it'll end up in a software update. They did that to undermine the Hymn Project (removing DRM from iTMS-downloaded songs) with iTunes.

    jerks... haha.

Ahh, but I am sure that somebody will figure out a hack. When the Asia iPhone comes out, it will not be tied to a particular service provider. In Asia, where the cell phone market is much more competitive, I am sure that there will soon be iPhone look-alikes that can go VOIP over wifi. Apple will have to allow their iPhone to be able to do VOIP in order to compete.
