I actually attempted it a few summers back. A guy that I work with is the head safety officer/boat driver for the American Waterski Association. The AWSA holds a disabled skiing tournament every year in Clermont (FL) near Orlando. Leon talked me into riding down with him and giving it a try.

The ski basically is more like a wakeboard with a cage like seat that your butt fits in. The seats are custom sized. If I remember correctly, Quickie made ski's at one time. They were about $1200. They started me off by sandwiching me between two AB skiers who were on trick skis. Each one had a hold of a shoulder to keep me from falling over. It took a few tries before I finally got up.

It is VERY tiring on the arms and sholuders. Yes you do fall and you do swallow a gallon of water or two. The AWSA has different ranks depending on your level of injury. There were a lot of amputees competeting and even a class for blind skiers (they are guided by a companion with a whistle who sits in the boat). Pretty Cool! Here is a link, click on Disabled Skiing...

Hah, yah son like I want a job!

No barrel rolls yet. I still haven't cleared the wake. I did manage to perfect the digger though. Thats where your front edge cuts the wake vertically after coming out of a turn causing you to swallow half the lake and explode into the water like a grenade.

I'm going out with another dude this weekend. Hopefully his boat will make a bigger wave so I can really hurt myself.

dude Carl, when are we going to Mexico? The Summer is flying bye already.
