Thumbs down Handicapped Parking in PA

Is a farce. The striped spaces are to small for ramps & lifts.

yep, they suck. Try to educate the owners of the property and your local inspectors regarding "Van accessible" parking. The federal law didn't take effect until 2004 so MANY of them are ignorant.

my biggest issue is that a lot of the buildings in my area are old and have steps to get inside and everything inside them is very cramped and narrow.

what about pottsville? now that's just scary for a chair, it's all uphill with posts in the middle of the sidewalks!

I just moved to PA from FL in Feb & I was shocked at the difference. Even the parking space for the vans are bigger in FL. Some lined spaces are half the wideth of others its a disgrace! Is there's no state wide enforcement here?

i don't know if there is or not. you're lucky if the lines are even painted well enough that you can see them in a lot of places. and you can tell that you've entered pennsylvania just by the feel of the road. it literally gets all pot holed and bumpy right at the border.

Even I-95 in Philly is a disgrace with pot holes.

Seems as though nothing has changed in the past 28 years when I used to live there!

Ok, OK, yes the roads suck, but I have to defend my state a little!! We have a pretty viscious freeze/thaw cycle compared to other states. Plus a lot of interstate traffic is funnelled through here on its way to and from the northeast. Imagine how high the fuel taxes would be to maintain the roads properly! Ouch! I'd rather dodge a pot-hole or two!! LOL

most of the new england states have the very same interstate traffic as well as the very same winters. not that it's making a marked difference considering the roads are the same, but it also doesn't help things when rendell cuts the budget and takes half of the pendot trucks off the road and doesn't pay for overtime.
remember the snow storm this year that had I-78 shut down as a result of 1) lack of preparation for a storm that was known about (and it's severity) at least two days ahead of time 2) cut budgets, less trucks on the road and no over time allowance?

pa is a great state! but the roads suck amish horse.

No, the NE states get cold and stay cold. We freeze and thaw many times through the year.

That storm wasn't a regular storm. There was no way to predict the fact that much ice would accumulate in such a quick time. I agree the roads should have been shut down long before they were, but we have to put some responsibility on the drivers too. Why were they out there in the storm? (hmm, maybe because the predictions were so bad...)
