    Anybody own a lowered SUV

Do you own a lowered SUV?? Can you post pictures??

Can anyone comment on safety considerations, cost of lowering, can you ride at normal height and lower for transfers only??

    Any other comments??

The only way to lower for transfers only and still have a good ride would be with airbags. Theres really no safety considerations when lowering vehicles most lowering is just bolt in and factory warrantys are still valid on issues not related to what you changed

I think I can safely and without much wear on my shoulders handle a 24 or 25 inch transfer, which means I would have to lower a standard SUV roughly 5 or 6 inches. Maybe that gap can be lowered permanently and still have enough ground clearance to go off roading on mild/moderate roads.

Lowering and off-road is a no go.... Bag it and that should be the ticket.

Another option to consider that requires much less in the way of modifications is a cassette style lift. Here's an example: http://www.vantagemobility.com/news/mark_one.aspx

The Audi All-road has hight adjustable suspension.

For highway driving it rides at the hight of a normal car and when you need the off road capability you just punch a button which raises the ride hight by about 6".

I think if you were to lower it permanently, you just made yourself a station wagon. LOL
