I'd argue that the easiest computer for a "neophyte" is the Mac, no need to be trendy or cool. Smart, maybe.
Wow, that sure brought out the Mac inferiority complex, didnt it? LOL. I dunno, I'd feel kind of insulted if my computer vendor of choice marketed their product as somewhat of a fashion statement. It would make me feel like that vendor thinks I have a box of rocks in my head. But to each his own. While Macs have their purpose, I like something that isnt so proprietary with limited software (for my uses) and something that I can dick with to make it a hot rod. You have your uses for your Mac...but I wont hold it against you.

The hard part of comparing Macs to PC's is that only 3 systems run desktop hardware.... The rest is laptop stuff.

I really haven't used a Mac in about 4 years, Os9, but as an OS is just a tool to run games and browse porn, anyone will do.

    Hello Jadis,

It looks like the Flying Toaster screensavers are back!

LOL! I'm glad someone around here admits to the true purpose of a computer.

Higher market share does not translate into a better product.

Andy - if you'd read and comprehended my post, you'd realize I don't have any Mac inferiority complex, nor do I hate or slam Windows. I just believe from personal experience of using both Mac and Windows machines that the Mac is a better OS, and the proprietary hardware is not an issue for me. Actually, it's a benefit for my tastes. Have you actually used a Mac for any serious length of time? That's how I came to my opinion. Also, I conceeded and said I completely understand why Windows machines have their appeal, particularly for guys like you who want to customize, build a hot rod, etc. If anyone here has their panties in a bunch, it's you. I'm not offended by the Apple Mac commercials, and if you didn't take yourself and your computer preferences so seriously, you might even crack a smile watching them. Hyperbole aside, there is truth in those ads. But like most all advertising, there is hype that needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

As for your lack of software argument, the only area this is true is in regards to games. And I have no problem telling you that I'd enjoy building a hotrod Windows based gaming machine, if I had the time and money.

Sorry, but I have no desire to compare cock-size with you. You're barking up the wrong tree. I actually understand why you dig PCs (and I explained that in my previous post), but despite the fact that I love the Mac, I'm not the Steve Jobs worshipper you'd like to think all Mac people are, just as I'm sure you're not a member of the Bill Gates fanclub. And for that matter, I don't hate or deify either guy; they're both shrewd business men with a passion for computers but different ideas about how computers should be used and implemented. But I digress. And yes, my Mac has a purpose; I make a living with it. Not that there's anything wrong with games and porn.

Paton - It's really not that hard to compare Pc to Mac now that Macs use Intel chips. Granted, it's hard to compare to PCs running AMD chips, but you can easily compare hardware set-ups for Intel based machines. I've found Macs can be cheaper than Dells for example.

Mac OS9 was a decent OS but I found Windows XP Pro to be more stable at the time. MacOSX, however, blows away OS9 and Windows XP in my opinion; the most stable OS I've used, the easiest to use, etc etc,

But I have to disagree with you on one point, not just any computer will do for playing games and surfing porn. Windows machines are by far the better choice for gamers, especially hardcore gamers.

I just love the way you throw stuff like this within your replies. I know I have quite the knack for riling up some people, but dont extrapolate my intent, it's all talking shop around here, nothing personal dude!

I was talking shop, Andy; I even addressed the question of the original post, suggesting a Mac may not be the best choice for someone who uses Dragon a lot, especially for word processing. I didn't take anything anyone said personally except maybe you saying I had some kind of Mac-inferiority complex. Hence, my response and the reference to comparing cock-size. No big deal.
