The burn on Brian's leg is healing so that very good. He brought a special boot that he wears to protect it. Brian was able to go back to work last week.

My wife and I fly to Baltimore Thursday night. On Friday Brian is having out patient surgery to replace the Baclofen pump, hopefully that will go smoothly. Several years ago when Brian had the original Baclofen pump surgery it was quite an ordeal. Three weeks after the first surgery the incision opened so to avoid infection they had to remove and install and new pump, then five months later there was an infection after the pump reservoir was refill so there was another surgery to install a new pump. For that surgery Brian had to drop out of medical school for the second semester. That whole process was quite an ordeal. Hopefully it will go much more smoothly this time.

On a positive note Brian was given an award at work. He was recognized as the Employee of the Month. It sounds a little silly, like the sign you see in the Home Depot parking lot, a reserved parking spot for the employee of the month but on the other hand it's better than being recognized as the worst employee of the month. Brian has a one year review coming up he's hoping to get a promotion and significant salary increase.

The surgery to replace the Baclofen pump went smoothly and the burn on Brian's leg has healed. Brian received a grade level increase at work and a substantial raise. He's still underpaid but at least it's better. Brian is establishing a reputation as a high performer so in the future he'll have many options on the outside when he wants to change jobs, at the present he loves his job.

Next week, Brian and my wife fly to Los Angeles. I'll drive the van from Phoenix and meet them at LAX. From the airport we'll go to my daughter's apartment so Brian can meet his niece, Amelia, for the first time. We're going to be in LA five days then Brian and my wife will fly back to Baltimore. At Thanksgiving my daughter and her husband are flying to Baltimore with Amelia. We'll have five adults a baby and a dog in Brian's two bedroom condo. It's going to be cramped for sure I can see myself sleeping on the couch or floor.

Lots of travel at this time of the year. I just got back from Baltimore. We had six in Brian's condo in Baltimore for Thanksgiving. The four month old baby, Amelia was very good. I came back to Phoenix to work. Ann is staying in Baltimore for another week. She'll fly back to Phoenix next week after my daughter and her husband go back to Los Angeles. Everything was good and I think that Brian enjoyed all of the company.

Brian's job is going very well and he enjoys the work. Ann and I fly back to Baltimore for Christmas with Brian.

    Hi Roger,

Just wanted to thank you for documenting so much of what has happened in the lives of yourself and your family. I was recently injured and spent the last week or so reading this entire thread from my hospital bed in rehab. All the ups and downs over the last 10 years really paint a picture of what living with SCI is like, and it is so inspiring to see that even though things don't always go the way we want or plan, we always have the power to push through and do the best we can to make our path more manageable. I laughed, smiled, and at times cried reading your story. Its nice to know that you are not alone, and hearing about other people who have overcome so many similar obstacles that I know I will one day be facing makes me happy, because I know that I will be able to do it too.

Thank you... I hope you realize how much simply sharing this story helped me, and I know by reading this has helped so many others throughout the years. Who knew based on your first post in this thread how far everything could come. Congratulations to Brian to all he has accomplished, congratulations to Christine and her daughter, and congratulations to you and Ann for raising such a strong and caring family.

Keep it up, and I look forward to whatever your futures hold!

I haven't post for sometime because things were going along without any significant developments. That changed yesterday.

Brian started having spasms and high temperature. He went to the Johns Hopkins Emergency and he's now in ICU. The doctors don't know what's wrong and we're very worried. Ann flew to Baltimore yesterday morning and I have a reservation to fly to Baltimore tomorrow.

Brian is more comfortable but doctors have not been able to diagnose what's wrong. They have Brian on an antibiotic for a possible bladder infection but it takes three days to culture the blood sample to determine if he's getting the right antibiotic.

Brian's doctor from Kennedy Krieger came over to ICU to make some recommendations about diagnostic tests to run.

I leave for Baltimore tomorrow morning at 11:45.
