Virtual reality therapy may help spinal cord injuries

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (CBS) - Thousands of people suffer from spinal cord injuries, and while not all end up In a wheelchair, being able to walk again takes time and drive.

Scientists at the University of Utah are developing a way to enhance rehabilitation. They are walking in a computer generated environment.

Professor John Hollerbach specializes in robotics at the school of computing. He said a local company approached him, about developing this virtual technology.

"They found that at a point, a patient doesn't progress as fast or they reach a plateau," Hollerbach said.
