Two Port Perry, Ont. sisters have returned home after undergoing controversial stem cell transfusions in China for their damaged spines.

Erica, 18, and Shannon Deering, 21, paralyzed in a car crash in 2004, were greeted by family members as they arrived at Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

The sisters, both in wheelchairs, had spent a month undergoing a series of experimental stem cell transfusions which are not available in Canada.

"There were so many ups and downs," Shannon told the Toronto Sun after touching down in Toronto.

"If it brings a little more physical development in the months to come, I'd go back."
