    Fitness Center at Siskin Rehab

So, I get word Siskin Rehab, the rehab hospital in Chattanooga, has opened a dis fitness center. It's geared for us. Yeppers. Us.

Personal trainers who know the ins and outs of various disses, some firsthand, experienced in helping establish workout goals, are on staff. Other perks: monthly fees comparable to other decent fitness centers in the area; adaptive equipment setup so we can workout from our chairs; tie-downs in the floor like in inpatient or outpatient p/t only in the fitness center ... the goodies go on and on. Sweet.

Don't know if other rehab hospitals offer fitness centers except for inpatients or outpatients, but this was the first I'd heard of one. I'm so there.

My physiatrist is at Siskin so if my trainer asks questions and I'm in a grey area about my bod, answers are as close as my doc.

Will go in two weeks for my assessment, setup fitness/workout goals with my trainer. Would go earlier, but I'm dealing with the lovely plan-your-life-two-weeks-in-advance-to-the-day-exactly paratransit system.

The center is open from very early until reasonably late, just like any other fitness center. It's not exclusively dis as ab's may join. Not sure why they would unless they were on a member's family plan. It seems some of the equipment could be awkward for them, but maybe not.

It'll be great to have a personal trainer who gets it, understands disabilities, can help me better learn how to exercise my body.

I start working out in February. I'll take pics of the layout and setup of the equipment if the Siskin powers that be don't have a problem with it. Maybe what Siskin is doing could help someone adapt a home gym. Maybe not. To me, it's always kewl to see what's available, what works for other people.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I hope there will be more, too. I was jazzed when I learned about it.

Working out at Siskin should rock.
