    Cath cleaning

I have a foley cath and was wondering the best way or chemical to clean it with. I am going to start wearing a condom cath every now and then and need to keep the other clean.

Foley catheters should not be cleaned and reused. They should be disposed of after removal. You will need a new catheter each time you insert one, and it must be inserted with clean technique.

The VA will provide you with a reasonable number of foley catheters (rarely more than four/month). More that that you would have to purchase yourself.

Once the catheter is inserted, you should clean the outside part of the catheter and your penis once daily with soap and water. Don't use antiseptic ointments or solutions (Betadine, etc.).

I am moving this over to the Care forum.
