    dissapointment via brace

So the day finally comes! my long awaited new brace, a townsend, top the line carbon fiber kafo. So the ortho guy takes it out of the box and it looks like a work of art, the design, the shiney look to it, and I notice it looks hella small. I'm wondering to myself, how the hell is that going to fit on my leg.

Before putting it on, we bullshit about how much nicer this brace is then the one i currently have and all during pool therapy my therapists was telling me how awesome the brace looks and how this next week before christmas we will pratice walking without both crutches now that I got a brace that actually fits me.

Can you believe I fit that all into 1 big ass run on sentence, i amaze myself somtimes.

    ANywho,
I go to jack that sucker on my leg, and its not going anywhere. THe ortho was like, take your time, i got all day....i'm like yeah this doesn't fit. THen he's like, yep, i would have to cut about 3 inches off ur calf and ur quads...

So we have to send it back, and becuase its carbon fiber, they totally have to refab the brace, they can't just heat it up and adjust it. So i'm guessing in about 5 months i'll get my brace. yay!

I had a feeling this was going to happen right when we sent the intial casting in, it must have been an early x-mas present

Sorry to hear about the misfitted (is that a word?) brace. What a bummer! God, I still have the brace they built me in rehab, it's hanging in the rafters in the basement ~ never really worked right.
You'd think since it was their mistake that they'd put a rush on it for you. Soon you'll be done with this semester, take some time off, hang in there ~ they'll get it right.

maybe they shipped your brace to the wrong person? they make a cast, so how can the size be than far off?

I konw Lois, i can't wait hah this semester is insane, but next will be even worse.

I know I thought that too metronycguy, but the length was exact, the width is what was totally wrong.

What I think might have happened is when he casted me, that stuff they wrap around you is pretty skin tight and becuase my msucles are mianly flacid in my calf, it probably squeezed the shit out of my calf making it alot smaller.

Also if my leg is getting poor circulation it will become very small. But today i just got out of the pool and my good leg and braced leg where the exact same size, so my leg changes shape alot i guess.

oh well its not big deal i'm just jacked because this brace I have right now is screwing up my leg but i have to wear it because without it i can't walk functionally.
