    Disfuntional Autotomic Nervous System

My blood pressurse is ranging from 73 to 158 in a short period of time, also bladder sphincter problems. Catheter size from 14 to 12 coude tip. Still hard or impossible to insert. Pacemaker for atrial fib. Out of breath at the least bit of exertion. Feeling pretty bad. Pulse 73 on wednesday, went to emerg. They say its not heart but autotomic nervous system and I should see a specialist. I'm thinking I am to old 74 years 54 years c6c7 walking quad. I do worry about strokes. Do you think there is help out there for my problem. Olly

Try using Uroject jely before cathing to relax sphincter.
Yes your problem is a common one in SCI. Who is your spinal cord doctor????
You need to keep your blood pressure in a good range so you won'thave a stroke.Wear hose when up during the day to keep your blood pressure from dropping when you are up and make sure your badder is not too full and your bowel stay empty and other things that can cause AD and of course other blood pressure problems.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a spinal cord doctor and have'nt for fory years, they all died. It's only in the last few years that I've been having these problems. I tried to catheter a few weeks ago, broke out in a soaking sweat gasping for breath. Tried three catheters did'nt work. Blood pressure rose to 137, which is very high for me. Could this have been AD?. I will try all the other recomendations. Thanks, Olly

Could have been -or maybe just nerves???Try using a size 14 fr.
But they have new SCI doctors to replace teh ones that died! I strongly suggest making an appointment
They have found out aot through researchin 40 years then again alot of things probably haven't changed.

You are right of course. I guess for forty years of my life after SCI I did'nt equate to being disabled in any way. Then came SCI and Aging syndrome. I did'nt believe at the time but I sure and Hell do now. Had a wonderful life. Olly

Your family doctor can handle this- you could have an enlarged prostate and it could be blocking your urethra your family doctor shoud do a DRE and you could be put on Flomax or Finasteride(if really large) to shrink it if that is the case. See commercias on TV-Have you had your PSA checked?Shoud be checked yearly over 50 and if any family hisotry of prostte cancer yearly over age 35 or 40.
