    Insurance question for new wheelchair

    Hi,
I need a new wheelchair as this one is 7 yrs old. The vendor is telling me I must lay out $3200.00 for a Quickie LS. I have Medicare and United Health is my secondary and I had no out of pocket expenses 7 years ago but I am being told it is different now. The vendor says his risk is Medicare will deny and then he is out the money.Any input ??

its been my experience-'how little that is' that medicare usually denies the first time.
maybe this guy's billing dept needs to be more assertive and keep trying.
if not screw him use somebody who wants you to have a new chair.
i would think you deserve a chair after 7 years
doesn't that just piss you off

Do you have a good letter of medical necessity from your SCI physician (written by the PT who fit you for this chair)? Without this, you will probably be denied.

I would agree that you should look for another vendor too...one who will be your advocate for getting the chair, not try to talk you out of it just by speculating that you won't qualify.
