Question Question re: bladder control during bowel program

    Hi Guys...

When Don (T11 complete)does his bowel program, he always "pees" during that time... is this normal or not? He has no control over urine coming out but doesn't leak at other times...

    Any feedback on this?

    Thanks, Sieg

I think thats pretty normal. Takin a crap pushes on your bladder or something like that. Even happens to AB people, most people can't take a poo with out takin a pee at the same time. Nothin to worry about.

Same thing happens to my husband (L1). He doesn't leak at other times either. To remedy this he just caths right before BP. No problem!

    It's Normal.

I'm a c-6 and it happens to me all the time. When I sit on my commode/shower chair to do my BP, I always keep my penis pointed down toward the toilet to direct the urine. Of course, after a while, I get hard and then it's a challenge not to piss on myself.

It happens to both people who are ab's and sci's. The reason it happens is that both the bowel and bladder are on the same reflez arc. You stimulate one and both respond. It's kind of like tapping both of your knees with a reflex hammer at the same time.

    Hope that helps.
