Pat Rummerfield to race in the 4-Desert Race

Patrick Rummerfield, the world's first fully recovered quadriplegic will compete in the 4-Desert Race, an invitation-only race for elite athletes managed by RacingThePlanet® (www.racingtheplanet.com).

"The competitors will cross the deserts of Gobi (China), Atacama (Chile), Sahara (Egypt) and Antarctica carrying their own gear and food supplies. Each of the competition legs lasts seven days and covers approximately 150 miles (240 kilometers).

The first race, which starts on May 28 in the Gobi Desert, in China, is known as “the race of no return”. Salt lakes, mountain tops, narrow canyons, temperatures of over 120º F and altitudes ranging from 50 to over 10,000 feet are some of the challenges racers will have endure."

What an honor for an SCI elite athlete to be invited to participate in this event, comments?

Same here, if it wasn't for Pat I would not be where I am today and probably would never have traveled up to at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Bottom line, Pat you are my hero

i guess i am just calloused, i just don't see how he did unless his sci was very incomplete, in the 1972 they knew even less about sci.
maybe they put him in the chair when he didn't have a incapacitating sci?
doesn't make sense to this calloused mind of mine.
still ....running the ironman is a feat on itself.
