Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot

    By John Callahan.

This guy describes his struggles with quadriplegia, alcoholism, power chairs, and the welfare system. It's more raw and darkly honest than anything else I've read. Plus his cartoons are hilarious.

Hey, Bones! Thanks for the reminder about this book. It's one I've been wanting to read, but I haven't purchased yet. Think I'll get it next round at Barnes and Noble.

I saw him once years ago near an antique mall in NW Portland. He looked grouchy as he appeared to be trying to negotiate his chair behind a parked car. Don't blame him -- it was in a very crowded/trendy (usually the same thing here) part of town.

One year I sent out a cartoon of his with (most of) my Christmas cards. It featured a hospital mental patient choir singing, "Do you hear what I hear?" (w/most of the choir members looking off in different directions). It spoke to me that year, no pun intended, very un-PC of course but my friends loved it.

I met up with him in Portland, Oregon in a rehab called RIO.
He is a great guy. Can anybody help me to get his e-mail address?

I read his book several years ago. It would make a great movie. Someone had movie rights to it, but a flick never materialized.
Despite several subsequent cartoon books. Callahan never got rich.
