Talking What excersices for balance and foot drop.

I have been diagnosed with SCI - nerve damage C1,C2 which controls motor skills - minimal, and use of a cane. I walk as if I have MS, but don't. What exercises would improve balance and foot drop (to strengthen ankle/foot/dorsiflex?)

    Faye,

I have been doing a lot of exercises using theraband to strengthen the ankle dorsiflexors, ankle pumps, etc. Walking in the pool has helped with balance (moving the arms around to generate turbulence). Some others will probably give you more suggestions.

Do you pack your feet up at bed time? Do this with pillows.

What i do to work on balance is take 2, 2.5 lb weights and when i stand, i put them out in front of me, over my head, make a t with my arms holding them out, and repeat. Works your upper body as well as balance! Also alot has to do with ab control/lower back. Right now thats my biggest problem, after a long day my back is pretty loose which really screws me for walking until i take a nice rest.
