I always enjoyed the mac look. Only if it supported popular computer games, i'd be all over it like a hobo on a ham sandiwtch.

But upon closer inspection it may just be a three-cornered hat. The landscape looks as though it could be from the Rocky Mountains. You have really beautiful scenery in your country too.

Norway has quite the naval history, I imagine starting with the Vikings. I've seen a few documentaries on early Viking boats and Norwegian shipbuilding both ancient and modern. And of course your RNoN. Your namesake Leif Erickson was a Norwegian/Icelandic explorer among the most famous here in the States. There's a professional NFL football team named The Vikings here in honor of him. Some believe he discovered the Americas well before Columbus by sailing up the St. Lawrence River perhaps as far as Minnesota.

Fjord is one of my favorite words. I don't know why, it just is!

I thought my desktop wallpaper was from a movie but I don't know which one either. It appears as though it may have been filmed on the famous steeply inclined streets of San Francisco. Someone here should know.

    EDIT:

Oops again. "The man sitting in the rear of your boat appears to be wearing"... ummmm... is that the bride in “The Bridal Party in Hardanger”? The artist not only made the ship appear too small but the bride to be as a rather large stoutly woman!
    Bob Clark,
The woman is the bride and she is wearing a crown on here head. It was a custom back in those days in some farmer communities. Even today some are using that custom if they have a vintage marriage. And the reason the bride seams to be a largely stoutly woman are again that Tidemand wanted his part of the painting to come into play as much as possible I think. I believe your desktop pic is from the 2nd Hannibal movie “Red Dragon”.

Agree that the landscape could have been from the Rocky Mountains area an also around the Lake Louise area in Alberta but if we talks about fjords it could also have been north of Vancouver around the Vancouver Island area where the mountains also will show, from the road “sea to sky” perhaps.

Naval and boats: We have some museums where some of the old Viking boats are put out to display, very fascinating to see how they where build; slim and light, made for speed. I believe that was what made them superior when they were out on their raids. Our RNoN are also these days waiting for a few new frigates to be delivered, guess they can be handy with everything going on in the Barents Sea these days, fishery, oil and the fact that the border up there are not clear with the Russians. This is important stuff, it is calculated that 25% of the undiscovered oil & gas resources is located up north in those oceans. Guess the US also has strong interests there. Hopefully everything will be peacefully sorted out.

I know about the NFL and the Vikings. Some time ago I also visited the first place Leif Erikson discovered North America (year 1000, easy to remember), a place called L'Anse aux Meadows at Newfoundland. There is also solid proof of the landing there done by Helge Ingstad and other archaeologists when they found the same tings there as they have found earlier on Iceland and here in Norway. But I believe that there is no proof that they came further down into North America. Maybe the Micmac Indians killed them or they died of some kind of illnesses? I also believe there was a person from Minnesota trying to fake some evidence some years ago but I have forgotten exactly what it was (maybe a memorial stone with some writing on?) but it was proven to be faked anyway. But after all, maybe he came downSt. Lawrence as well, who knows? I also drove down St. Lawrence through Quebec and all the way down to the Great Lakes a time ago, a very nice drive and I’d like to do it again some time.

Here is also a “famous” painting of Leif Erikson discovering North America painted by Cristian Krogh.
