    Tendon transfer

    Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if anyone had done tendon transfer surgery...
    I got some questions:
How long does it take till your hand back to normal?
Normal I mean able to go to the gym or train for the sport?
I mean if I do it on Feb will I be fine on May?
    Thanks

Lady81ca, I moved your thread to the Care forum so that it would get more attention there by the SCI-Nurses and others. Thanks. Wise.

Which type of tendon transfer are you planning on? there are several types. I would suggest you do a search here under "tendon transfer" and you will find many previous posts.

You will not be able to use that hand at all for at least 6 weeks, then will have extensive OT to learn how to use it. Having surgery in Feb and being ready for competitive sports activities in May might be pushing it some.

    me too!
I'm on week 4 of my second hand.
My 1st hand took about 2-3 months beforeALL soreness was gone. I was back to normal activities by 6 weeks but there was still soreness.
I went to therapy for 2 days a week for the first 4 weeks after cast came off to teach me to use my new grip but daily life activities are what makes it stronger.
like Jeff, I'd be happy to answer questions also: adtett122@yahoo.com

JEFF: did you have yours done at shepherd's?

    curious

for those of you who have had tendon transfer surgery what was your level of injury? Would you say that you have really benefited from the surgery? I have been doing research on this topic but most of the web sites pretty much say the same things and I am hoping maybe you guys can give me more information. How long was your hospital stay after surgery? Has anyone had the electrode surgery w/ the little pacemaker thingie?

    Thanks.. D
