The SummerFest program showcased activities including cycling,
sailing, rock climbing, windsurfing, water skiing, and running and
wheeling in addition to outrigger canoeing.
The week-long event brought youth and adults with
disabilities from across southern California and 14 States together
to participate in the first ever SummerFest. Instructors from 14
states who teach in Disabled Sports USA community-based chapters,
participated in SummerFest to obtain training in adaptive sports
instruction.

"Disabled Sports USA's programs help to rebuild lives through
sports," said Kirk Bauer, executive director at Disabled Sports USA.
SummerFest provided unique, hands-on opportunities for physically
disabled adults and children to learn how to conquer sports
activities that might once have seemed unimaginable from
internationally recognized athletes, including several Paralympians.
With SummerFest's distinctive educational component, recreation
specialists improved their athletic instruction skills for
physically disabled individuals."
