Invacare Corporation's Team Invacare Athlete Sonja Peters Named 2002 Sportswoman of the Year

ELYRIA, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 2002--Invacare Corporation's Team Invacare athlete Sonja Peters was named 2002 Sportswoman of the Year in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Ranked fourth in the world by the International Tennis Federation, Peters won a string of victories in late 2002, including the French Open, the Australian Open and the Invacare World Team Cup. She also won several runner-up titles at other opens, including The Netherlands, France, Japan and the United States.

Peters, 25, of The Netherlands, first broke into the ITF rankings in 1995 at position No. 58. She jumped to the top five by 1998, and she has remained and competed there ever since. The Eindhoven award was presented in early December.
Peters offered a spontaneous speech expressing gratitude for the award and for the recognition of her achievements in her sport "This really means a lot to me," she said.
