    COALITION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF MEDICAL RESEARCH

    Position Description

    The Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR) is comprised of nationally-recognized patient organizations, universities, scientific societies, foundations, and individuals with life-threatening or debilitating illnesses and disorders, advocating for the advancement of breakthrough research and technologies in regenerative medicine - including stem cell research and somatic cell nuclear transfer - in order to cure disease and alleviate suffering.

    Title: Coordinator
    (Part-time with flexible work schedule, non-exempt)
    Reports to: President and Vice President of Operations/Secretary, CAMR Board of Directors

    POSITION OVERVIEW
    Provide overall administration and coordination to the Coalition and support the President and Board of Directors in managing the daily, internal operations of CAMR. Manage a variety of legislative, communications and membership responsibilities. Maintain the CAMR website and listservs including handling email correspondence. Manage special projects as assigned by President.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    I. Administration/Operations (25%)
    In coordination with appropriate Board officers and/or Board committees:
    Provide staff support to the President and CAMR Board of Directors.
    Maintain computer files for all CAMR documents, including legislative alerts, legal materials, updated membership lists and letters, and other correspondence.
    Manage logistics for Board of Directors and Membership meetings, including scheduling, organizing conference calls, preparation and distribution of materials in advance of the meetings, and other arrangements as necessary.
    Attend Board of Directors and Membership meetings, and other relevant meetings (including some evening events.)

    II. Legislative /Communications/Membership Support (40%)
    In coordination with appropriate Board officers and/or Board committees:
    Arrange meetings for Board members with Hill staff.
    Maintain current whip count during legislative debate.
    Prepare leave-behind packages.
    Draft action alerts and communications to grassroots constituency and Coalition membership.
    Coordinate with the recruitment of new members.
    Manage special projects as determined by Board of Directors and assigned by President.

    III. Website Activities (35%)
    In coordination with appropriate Board officers and/or Board committees:
    Maintain/update the CAMR web site, including but not limited to adding press articles, timely legislative action alerts, names of new members, and useful links, as well as working with appropriate vendors to ensure that the site design, layout and content remain current.
    Maintain CAMR listservs (Board and Membership), including adding new members (Board approval required).
    Retrieve and respond to voice mail messages and general email correspondence arising from the CAMR web site.
    Manage special projects as determined by Board of Directors and assigned by President.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    Required:
    Excellent interpersonal skills.
    Effective oral and written communication skills.
    Strong project implementation skills.
    Highly organized and detail oriented, able to work independently.
    Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies and through many communication vehicles (email, voice mail, personal meetings, etc.), to take initiative, and to work both independently and as part of a team across functional areas.
    Facility with PC systems and competency/experience with standard software (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, etc.).
    Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and work with high degree of accuracy.
    Personal attitude that includes flexibility, willingness to adapt to changing situations.
    Basic understanding of Web site updating software, or willingness to develop expertise quickly in this area.

    Strongly preferred:
    Four-year college degree.

    Salary:
    Commensurate with experience.
