Excellent article on rotator cuff repair recovery

From current issue of New Mobility, by Bob Vogel:

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

I had a Mumford procedure, which is removing part of the end of the clavicle which impinge against the rotator cuff, a biceps tendon resection, as well as some moderate rotator cuff repair. It was done by a well-known shoulder surgeon.

I had a power chair, a surehands lift, as well as 24/7 help in my home so I knew I'll be equipped for recovery. However, and I cannot believe this, when I asked the doctor for postop instructions, he simply said "activities as tolerated". Can you believe that? The day after, he's saying you can do whatever you want as long as you can tolerate it, be it transferring, ADLs, etc.. If you look at postop instructions for just the Mumford procedure alone it dictates a period of complete immobilization in a sling.

    I can't believe this.
