    Unum throttling back benefits

Has anybody else dealt with this? Last year they came at me suddenly claiming they've been overpaying for years and years and chopped down my monthly benefit. Please PM if you're concerned about anonymity. Thanks.

Have you read your contract? Are there provisions for reducing benefits over time?

I have not reviewed my contract, but that's a good idea. Their contention was that they miscalculated my payments over the years, and that their new and corrected formula – which happens to figure in their favor – makes everything A-OK again. They're doing this to people nationally, so I wonder if anyone here has encountered that too.
