Question Searching out for some resources for a wheel chair brother

Hey guys ? I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with the PCA program or nursing program in New York State. One of my friends/associates is in need of care. He needs to get to hyperbaric oxygen treatments to potentially heal from osteomyelitis.

I don't know the depth of the situation but if anyone knows of emergency care services or other healthcare aids or agencies that I could direct him to please let me know. Thank you in advance for any thoughts or points towards resources.

I don't know of any PCA or nursing agencies that provide transportation for medical treatment. Can he go in his wheelchair and take paratransit or public transportation? If he must go on a gurney, then he may have to self-pay for gurney van (non-emergency) transport. I assume he has prior authorization for payment for the HBO from his insurance?

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

I don't know all the details – I just know he desperately needs help and I'm hoping that I can reach out to provide some resources. Not in a good spot physically and I'd like to see what I can do to help. Will look for resources.

He has a wheelchair. In Massachusetts there's a whole PCA directory and ways to go about getting hours through health insurance. I just don't know of any resources in NY.

I thought you were looking for transportation assistance? If instead, what he really needs is a PCA, then he can also get information through his local CIL/ILC: https://www.ilru.org/projects/cil-ne...ory-results/NY

Is he on Medicaid? Medicare? Private insurance? Private pay?

Some information on NY PCA services for Medicaid recipients:
