Investigators at the University of the Sciences are conducting an anonymous and voluntary research study regarding the reproductive effects of spinal cord injury (SCI). The aim of this study is to assess the extent of sexual and reproductive education provided to spinal cord injury patients during the initial reproductive period. Utilizing completed surveys and analyses, this research will attempt to assess the depth and adequacy of education and awareness about issues in fertility in this patient population. Results from this study could have clinical applications when it comes to discussing reproductive goals with SCI patients.

You are eligible for this study if you have sustained a traumatic spinal cord injury in the United States of America at eighteen (18) years of age or older. You are not eligible for this study if the mechanism of spinal cord injury was not traumatic in nature, or if you were under the age of eighteen (18) at the time of injury. Additionally, you are not eligible for this study if you are unable to complete the survey in its entirety.

Participation in this study comprises completion of an online, anonymous survey. The survey should take ten (10) minutes or less to complete. IP addresses and geolocation tagging will not be tracked. Personal information that could be used to identify you will not be collected or used in potential publications. It is possible that you may experience negative emotions or distress from thinking about the subject matter involved in the survey questions. Your participation in this survey is voluntary. You have the right to withdraw your participation in this study at any point, without penalty.

Questions can be directed to the study investigator, Katherine Peisochenske, MS, PA-C (k.peisochenske@usciences.edu), and/or to the student investigator, Megan Huwe, PA-S (mhuwe@mail.usciences.edu). If you have questions concerning your rights as a research subject, you may contact the IRB administrator at irb@usciences.edu or 215-596-7490.
