    New Member Intros

I have registered 800 new members in the past 18 months. Welcome to CC. Don't be shy, tell us about yourself!

I was injured in 1995, C5/6 incomplete, fell from a building. Worked with troubled children before and after my injury, now at a university neuroscience center.

Yes! By all means tell us about yourselves and your experiences!

    I'm T12, injured 1995.
I had a foreign car repair shop 45 years. When injured I got a stand up wheelchair and continued to do repairs until I realized I was now a much better manger than mechanic!

There are 4 SCI-Nurses currently. Of the 4, I am now retired while the others are still working in SCI rehab and sustaining care. I have been a member since the Spine-Wire and Cando! days, so from the late 1990s. I was the clinical nurse specialist and rehab case manager at a VA SCI/D center for 28 years, and worked as a CNS in a private sector acute rehab prior to that (also as a staff nurse). Also, my mother had MS and I was a part-time caregiver for her.

Welcome the new members; wish some of our "old" members would come back too.

    (KLD)
The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

    Hello, my name is Marla,
Spinal cord herniation T7/8 was diagnosed in May 2017, which is a relatively rare diagnosis. I had my surgery in August 2018.

I am pleased to meet you!

Hey Jim-I just saw we both were injured in 95 and both now in NJ.
I got hurt in Aug and went to Kessler in the fall when Christopher Reeve was there.
    Were we there together?

After college I moved to Atlanta, was injured in Nov, went to Shepherd. Moved back to Jersey in '96, did about a year of outpatient at Kessler. We prob crossed paths at some point. Did you do outpatient there?

I did my outpatient at the Kessler satellite in Chester NJ, about 5 miles from my house, so I guess we were strangers.
But if you were ever up this way you'd be a welcome guest here-we have a wonderful, accessible space here in this converted barn.
