I'm a Robot

I'm very lucky to work at a great university. I have taught in the classroom many semesters, but have been teaching all online for the past few years. A faculty member in the College of Education was able to get a https://www.doublerobotics.com/ robot through a grant, and I have been able to use it to attend a few meetings. There was a local news story about it: https://www.ksfy.com/content/news/Da...503052321.html (The robots from this company have been shown on The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, and Community.)

I received an email last week that the university is purchasing another robot just for me. No more going out in the cold to attend meetings! I can be on campus and interact with others while controlling the robot from home.

That thing is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Congratulations on having them getting it for you. I want one.

It would be so cool to have one. As an elderly person in a chair I can think of many places I would like to visit, such as museum exhibits, the grocery store, etc. but travel is so difficult. Perhaps they will be available for many more applications.

There are a number of museums which now offer similar robots which you can access on-line. This includes the Tate Modern (London), the de Young Museum (San Francisco), and The Van Abbemuseum (The Netherlands). A number of other museums are considering adding this service; I know they did a pilot program at the San Diego Art Museum several years ago, and have a small program. The nearby San Diego Air & Space Museum also has this available now.

Incredible, fascinating technology. I had seen it on Big Bang, but didn't realize it was a real thing. Sure wish they had this during my college days attending school in the lake-effect snow region!!
