    Posture correction brace

Do these kinds of braces work? After 30+ years as a C5/6, I have pretty bad kyphosis that?s leading to chronic neck pain. PTs have attached shoulder straps to my wheelchair, but I don?t use them because it restricts movement too much (can?t lean to reach things). They are ok for driving, but I don?t use them even then.

If it?s a brace that is not visible or bulky (under the shirt), I think I might use it. It?s cheap enough that I guess I?ll at least buy one and try it.

Kyphosis is unlikely to be corrected with a brace, as it is a bony deformity of the spine, and most likely is calcified due to the duration of your deformity. Have you seen a good ortho spine specialist to see if surgical correction is possible?

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

Don't know what products you've tried, but you might take a look at the PivotFit ("standard" version is more restrictive, "dynamic" less so), or the Trimline Shoulder Harness worn in the backpack configuration (straps crossed in front so you can still use your arms). The Trimline allows separate L/R adjustment so it would be more corrective.

The back on your chair is important, too, obviously.
