    Can an able bodied person do the bowel program

    I am asking for my grandma who is Terribly bound up but I thought I heard it's even Dangerous for an AB to do the bowel program. Is that the case

    Take her to the ER.

    If she has taken strong oral laxatives (mag citrate for example) and still is not passing stool, she needs to go to see her physician or go to the ER. You should not attempt to manually remove stool from the rectum of an AB person. It is both painful, and can cause significant vagal stimulation which can dangerously lower blood pressure and pulse.

    It is also important that the reason for her to be impacted is further investigated. There are a number of medical problems, including bowel cancer, that can be the cause, so she needs to be examined and tested for these.
