    Gentamicin bladder flush

I've been reading a lot about Gentamicin for bladder flush/ irrigation with people living with indwelling catheters who experience UTIs regularly. I've spoke with my Dr. about it and, he seems to think of this as a injection antibiotic only. I am chronically plagued with infections over and over due to my supra pubic catheter. I have tried every thing including Microcyn with little to no results. I am unable to retain the Microcyn for longer than 5 minutes. Hoping that Gentamicin bladder flush could be my answer. How do I explain this to my urologist to get him to prescribe me the solution? I would love to hear about every ones experience with this. Please enlighten me! Thank you!!

Was it your urologist you spoke to? I would be very surprised if a urologist was not aware of gentamicin bladder flushes...we did those with SCI patients on intermittent cath in the 1970s! It does not come commercially this way...it is generally made in a compounding pharmacy.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.
