    alexa

    alexa? what do i need? here is what i would like to do. make phone calls by voice command. control tv (firestick). turn off/on lamp fan.

    I do all these things...
    You can make phone calls by voice command just pair Alexa to your phone.
    You can control your fire stick by adding it to Alexa app.
    Get yourself some lutron switches with hub and also pair to the alexa app.

    I use Alexa for lights, thermostat, making calls, and using Dish Network.

    ALexa works with Fios so I use it to change channels and pause/fast forward through recorded programs. I also use it to play music.

    My recollection is that you will need to use a tablet or a smart phone. If you do not have a smart phone or a tablet then just borrow someone's device.

    I use my laptop and Leapdroid Android emulator to setup and control my stuff.

    She doesn't work with Comcast, which is what we have.

    I don't have her controlling anything yet, but she does play my Pandora radio stations when I'm awake during the night.
